CAMP COUNSELOR QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Our camper’s parents place tremendous trust in us to find, select and train the best individuals to who they can entrust their children. We do not take our parents’ trust lightly. To work with our campers and families, a counselor must commit to:

  • Complete an application. Applications can be completed anytime during the year and are due by February 15th for the next summer session.
  • An interview, references and background checks
  • Attend orientation and training on the Saturday before camp
  • Complete assigned web-based training
COUNSELOR STAFF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in a camp setting
  • Ability to relate to one’s peer group and be a positive member of our team
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance
  • Good character, integrity and adaptability
  • High school graduate
  • Commitment of entire week at camp
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain consistent supervision of campers for six day resident camping experience
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activities of camp programs
CAMP COUNSELOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Live in a cabin with individual groups of campers, serving as their counselor and leader throughout the week
    • Guide your cabin in a variety of camp activities
    • Live with a group of campers and work to develop a group/team feeling in your cabin and in CWWD as a whole
    • Know the whereabouts of your campers at all times
    • Set a good example for your campers
  • Monitor the daily health and safety of each camper assigned
    • Be safety and health conscious regarding camper’s needs
    • Enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
  • Identify and meet camper needs
  • Establish individual respect and relationships with each one of your campers
  • Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
  • Assist CWWD staff by actively participating and supervising campers at program activities
  • Assist in the development of special programs and activities as needed
  • Be aware of not only your own cabin’s welfare, but also that of the entire camp
  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
